IV Sedation

Occasionally, a patient will have a greater than average degree of dental anxiety and feel nervous about the procedure that they are about to undergo.  There are a couple of options that the doctor can use to ease the stress of the upcoming dental appointment.  One option is to administer intravenous sedation at the time of the appointment.

Intravenous sedation is more effective than oral sedation and has the added benefit of the patient having little to no memory of the procedure.  In fact, the patient will think they have been asleep the whole time, when they were actually awake for the duration of the treatment.

Patients who undergo intravenous conscious sedation should arrange to have an escort home as they will not be allowed to leave the dental office alone at the end of the procedure.
